The purpose of this website is to provide information on Neolithic long barrows. I undertake research on this fascinating and enigmatic class of monument, and this website will allow me to share this research more widely.
The website is called ‘Unearthing long barrows’, but this is not ‘unearthing’ in a physical sense, through excavation. It is about ‘unearthing’ new information about these monuments.
There are many types of long barrow, with many shapes and sizes and different types of construction material. My current research tends to concentrate on long barrows with earthen mounds, rather than megalithic mounds that might be found in the Cotswolds or around the Severn Valley, although I still have an interest in these monuments. Most of my research has been on long barrows located in Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset, although I also branch out into Sussex, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire on occasion.
